I'm sitting here at a local cafe in Santa Fe at a table immersed in what feels like a cozy outdoor getaway surrounded by trees and plants. There's a gentle breeze this morning with a crispness that reminds me that Autumn, my favorite season, is coming and a childlike excitement begins to stir up within me as my mind jumps to pumpkin everything, cozy evenings, a chance to start up the fireplace in my new apartment, and an excuse to begin to go inward as the daylight shortens. I'm grateful for the fresh cup of hot coffee that is helping to keep me warm.
I was doing my morning yoga this morning and reflecting on a conversation I had with a friend yesterday on the theme of not enoughness.
Do MORE. Be BETTER. Make more MONEY. Keep GOING even when your body tells you to rest. Maybe you were taught this in childhood, in school, by your boss or a partner (or maybe all of them!) somewhere along your journey. Most likely it was from an external voice. Maybe you're even feeling the pressure now.
I personally have experienced not enoughness with the frequency of posts on social media, productivity in a previous job, urgency in my business, expectations from family and previous partners, the number of classes I take when I sign up for unlimited memberships among many other ways my brain tries to tell me I'm not enough.
At what point do you push yourself beyond your limits that you begin to crumble? Do you tend to feel this mentally, emotionally or physically? Which one first? And why do you feel the constant urge to constantly produce, do more, be better and not feel like enough? Does it makes you feel guilty? Where in your life do you currently not feel like you are enough?
What can you do to help you feel like you are enough?
Here are a few of my ideas that have worked for me:
Do movement or a sport where it's just you as the moving vessel- do yoga, dance, run or go for a walk outside!
Write it on a sticky note and put it somewhere you see it.
Take a quick break from your computer to get 5 minutes (or more) of fresh air outside. (fun fact: it'll help boost your productivity)
(fill in your own idea here! what works for you?)
It gave me a sense of relief that I was okay this morning with just being me on my mat, not needing any props except my body that moves me, my beating heart and my breath that keeps me alive. Just showing up for myself.
I reminded myself that I AM enough.
And I'm here to remind you this morning that you are enough too.
And if that's not enough- Look at the sun, the sky, the clouds, the moon, the plants and animals around you. Nature shows up as it is and will also remind you that you are enough.
The Just Earthly Podcast for self- and world- healing through nature on Spotify will also be coming back with new episodes released on Tuesdays very very soon. Don't forget to follow the podcast! Catch up while you can because I have many more interviews waiting to be released with so many amazing humans doing amazing things and I don't want you to miss out about their journey and how they heal through nature.
I love you all!🙏🏻❤️🌎
